Mike Bennett |
Mike first picked up a guitar at the age of 5, and has never looked back. Trained in singing at the Trinity Boys Choir, and studying guitar throughout his youth, he pursued a degree in Composition from Wesleyan University. After 2 years studying Shamisen and Taiko drumming in Japan, followed by another two years playing jazz and solo shows in Los Angeles, he moved to Brooklyn, NY to continue his musical development.
The stylistic range is broad - elements of classical, jazz, rock and blues fuse with various world music, electronica, funk, classic soul and hip hop to form unique sound that is hard to pin down, but effortless to enjoy. In addition to his solo work for guitar, beatbox and voice (mikebmusic.com), Mike plays guitar in numerous ensembles, scores cinematic cues for film and TV, and leads the 'Soul Glo Orchestra' - a collective of some of the best musicians in NY (and beyond) who specialize in Mike's unique brand of hard-hitting, soulful pop music. Dubbed 'Power-Funk' it appeals to audiences across all demographics. Mike is a teacher at the New York City Guitar School, where he gives private and group lessons, directs bands, guitar ensembles, leads songwriting and production workshops. He also runs a music meetup - Mike B's Brooklyn Guitar Workshop - and teaches privately. Mike brings his joy and love of music to all around him - be they students, collaborators, or fans. |
